What is Orphan Hosting?
A Life-Changing Mission Trip in Your Own Home
Orphan hosting is a highly specialized international exchange program designed exclusively for vulnerable and orphaned children.
For 4 to 6 weeks, children travel to the United States to live with a vetted host family. It is a profound, immersive intervention designed to pull a child out of an institutional environment and place them into the warmth, security, and daily rhythm of a loving family.
The Mechanics of Hosting
For many of these children, a hosting program is the first time they will experience unconditional care. They learn what it means to be heard, to have their own space, and to be valued simply for existing.
While the daily reality involves simple things—learning English words, sharing family dinners, or going to the park—the psychological impact is massive. Hosting operates on three distinct levels of impact:
Respite & Restoration: Children are temporarily removed from the harsh, survival-based environment of an orphanage and given a safe space to decompress and experience joy.
Cultural Exchange: Families share their values, culture, and language, while gaining a profound, firsthand education on the resilience of the human spirit and their host child's heritage.
Advocacy & The Ripple Effect: While hosting is not adoption, it is the single most effective catalyst for it. Host families become fierce advocates for their host children. Statistically, older children and sibling sets who participate in a hosting program see their chances of eventually finding a forever family skyrocket.
Who We Serve
Project 143 focuses our logistical firepower on the demographics that the system frequently leaves behind. We prioritize securing travel for older children (ages 6–16), children with special needs, and larger sibling sets—ensuring brothers and sisters are not separated by financial constraints.
Preparing for the Future: The HOPE Grant Initiative
Hosting is a massive logistical undertaking. Securing passports, visas, international flights, travel medical insurance, and bilingual chaperones requires significant capital.
While our active travel programs are currently paused due to international friction, we are aggressively funding our HOPE Grant reserves. These grants are the financial engine of our future programs. By building these reserves today, we ensure that when international doors reopen, the heavy logistical costs will never prevent a willing family from hosting a sibling set or an older child.
Giving Hope to an orphan child can be a life-changing experience for both the child and your family. By opening your heart to an orphan, you have the chance to give a child the love and support they need to reach their full potential. We invite you to join us in our mission to combat the global orphan crisis and give every child the chance for Hope.
